Remembering Dido
All cities were women in the ancient days
of Latium and Greece.
And the Gods that ruled over them
knew not of their coastal waves
nor the mysterious secrets
that their feudal walls could keep.
In those aging hours to the
masculine desires their nature
did not heed.
The creatures of their city,
called feminine too, all but the
flowers of the strawberry tree.
There was little these great virile
forces could widdle, from the hearts
of angels not eager to please.
In the death of an empire their spirits
still faithful, to a country their
daughters could not live to see.
